Thursday’s music picks: Jim Lauderdale, Lost Bayou Ramblers

Jim Lauderdale plays Saturday at the Cactus Cafe.
Jim Lauderdale plays Strange Brew.

Jim Lauderdale at Strange Brew. It’s awfully hard to keep up with country songwriter Lauderdale’s prolific career. Even as evaporating sales have led some artists to record less, Lauderdale has released eight albums in the past five years, including 2015’s two-volume, 26-song “Soul Searching” recorded half in Memphis and half in his hometown of Nashville. Perhaps best known as the host of the annual Americana Music Awards show at the Ryman Auditorium, Lauderdale has become one of the genre’s most active and enduring creative forces. $25-$30. 8 p.m. 5326 Manchaca Road. strangebrewloungeside.com.

Lost Bayou Ramblers, the Americans at Continental Club. Last seen on this stage a few weeks ago when they teamed with the Pogues’ Spider Stacy to reimagine the Irish band’s repertoire with a Cajun twist, the Ramblers return to put their own music in the spotlight. Joining them is Los Angeles band the Americans, whose profile will rise considerably this spring when they’re featured prominently in the upcoming PBS program “American Epic” along with the likes of Willie Nelson, Alabama Shakes, Nas and Elton John. $8. 10 p.m. 1315 S. Congress Ave. continentalclub.com.
