Austin360 On The Record: Ricky Stein, Tina She, Greg Izor

RickySteinAlbumCoverRicky Stein, “Long Summer.” Mixing folk, blues, country and more into a rich Americana sound, Stein delivers 11 songs with the help of local backing musicians including steel guitarist Gary Newcomb, keyboardist Matt Hubbard and fiddler Warren Hood. The lyrics are up front, not a surprise given that Stein earned accolades two years ago as a writer with a book about 1960s Austin label Sonobeat Records. His release show at the Blackheart on Saturday, June 18, kicks off a six-week East Coast tour. Here’s a solo live version of the album’s opening track, “Buying Time”:

TinaSheAlbumCoverTina She, self-titled. Nine tracks of smooth and soulful R&B and trip-hop from a singer who has performed for many years as part of the duo God Des & She. These are well-produced songs with potential for broad pop appeal. Here’s the track “Only Angels”:

GregIzorAlbumCoverGreg Izor & the Box Kickers, “The 13 14.” Add one more to the title to get the 15 original tracks of deep traditional blues and R&B on this release from the singer and harmonica player, who cut his teeth in New Orleans before landing in Austin. Also known for his tenure in Anson Funderburgh & the Rockets and the King Bee Lounge’s Monday-night mainstay Little Elmore Reed Blues Band, Izor was a fixture at the new Antone’s in the first half of 2016 before heading overseas for a summerlong tour.
