Shortly after the gates opened at 11 a.m. Saturday for day two of the Austin City Limits Music Festival, college football die-hards began gathering in the Beer Hall. Typically, the Texas Longhorns have a game during ACL Fest weekend, but this one is unusual in that it began before any of the musical acts took the stage.

Oklahoma State jumped out to an early 14-0 lead. “It’s hard to be a Texas fan this year,” said Austinite Ross Brown, who’s attending ACL Fest for the 10th year in a row. Temperatures were mild this morning, in the 70s with cloud cover; often, he says, he seeks out the UT games because “it’s always nice to come watch in the shade.” That might prove to be the case again next weekend when Texas plays Oklahoma.

In the meantime, the Horns came storming back to cut the lead to 16-13 near the end of the first quarter. Austinites John and Linda Moore looked on with a little less passion than the hard-core Orangebloods; they watched from their Michigan chairs, reflecting their allegiance to the team of their former home state.

This is their third year at ACL Fest. John said they found more of interest in last year’s musical lineup, but they enjoy the atmosphere and just “sitting in the beer hall!” You might well find them there at 2:30 today, when their Wolverines take on Wisconsin in a matchup of top-1o teams.
