When you hear the “Star Wars” theme, you know what to do. As always, hundreds of early arrivals to the Austin City Limits Music Festival scurried through the main gate on Barton Springs Road at 11:01 a.m. as the music blared, officially marking the start of the fest’s second straight weekend in Zilker Park.

“They don’t run as much as they used to because of the pat-downs,” a security staffer noted shortly before the opening fanfare. While it’s true that the mad rush is a little more orderly these days, many still got ready for the long dash down the hill to the east, likely seeking prime spots for Radiohead’s 8 p.m. set on the Samsung stage.

Others were just happy to be here bright and early. About halfway back in the pack, brothers Eric, David and Vincent Olave, who drove nine hours yesterday from Amarillo for their first ACL Fest, seemed psyched. “We’re just here for the environment, and to see all of these bands all together,” said Eric, 24, the oldest of the three. (David is 23 and Vincent is 20.)

They mentioned Schoolboy Q, on tomorrow’s docket, as one of the acts they’re most eager to see. Today, David mentioned M83 as a favorite, and all of them were looking forward to Die Antwoord, one of weekend one’s most-buzzed-about acts. “Their music is really weird,” Vincent noted, “and the crowd’s probably going to be insane.”

With temperatures in the low 80s and threats of possible before-noon rain having dissipated, the weather was decent as the day began, if a bit humid. Cloud cover should ease the mid-to-high 80s temperatures expected in the afternoon.
