In a last-minute switch, dark and druggy alt-R&B sensation Weekend has canceled his concert at the Circuit of the Americas scheduled to go down after this year’s Formula One Grand Prix on Sunday, Oct. 23. Smooth crooner Usher, along with legendary full-band hip-hop outfit the Roots, will replace the Weeknd at the show.
Concert organizers say the Weekend cancelled his appearance to focus on his next album, “Starboy,” due out on November 25 . They included this statement from the Toronto artist, with today’s announcement about the cancellation:
“It is with sincere regret that I am not able to perform at the 2016 Formula 1 United States Grand Prix this year. Playing a show for F1 is an incredible opportunity and I am absolutely certain that Taylor Swift and Usher & The Roots will provide all F1 fans with two unforgettable concerts.”
Taylor Swift is scheduled to play at the track after race events on Saturday night.
