Rhett Miller, Bob Schneider among free Shady Grove shows this season

Jackie Venson will play KGSR’s Unplugged at the Grove series on July 13 at Shady Grove. RICARDO B. BRAZZIELL/AMERICAN-STATESMAN

If the weather’s warm, it’s time to head for cover in the Shady Grove. Or no cover, as the case may be: KGSR’s “Unplugged at the Grove” shows on the patio of the Barton Springs Road restaurant feature free admission on Thursdays through September for some of the city’s best talent plus a few out-of-town guests.

The annual series starts up on April 13 with Oxford, Miss., singer-songwriter Charlie Mars, who visits Austin often and recorded his new album “Beach Town” here. Rounding out the first month are Swimming With Bears and the Peterson Brothers, two young local outfits that received grants from local music patron group Black Fret last year.
