The Dixie Chicks issued a statement Monday evening to honor Austin bassist George Reiff, who worked with both the Natalie Maines-fronted band and the spinoff group Court Yard Hounds featuring sisters Emily Strayer and Martie Maguire.

“George was the musician you could always count on to come early and stay late — to elevate the music and always make it better,” reads the statement, credited to all three members. “But more than that, George was kind and thoughtful and always a gentleman.  He was our good friend and we miss him dearly.”
