This week’s music picks: Mystery Monday anniversary, Help Clifford Help Kids and more

Monday: Mystery Monday Fifth Anniversary at El Mercado Backstage. Mondays got brighter in November 2012 when Christine Albert and Sarah Elizabeth Campbell teamed up to start a new weekly gig at one of South Austin’s best old-school Tex-Mex joints. Campbell died a year later, but the show went on, and it became so popular that it helped motivate El Mercado to build a larger stage with a new sound system in its large back room. Helping Albert and her co-host Bill Kirchen to celebrate will be Butch Hancock and Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Bill Hearne and South Dakota’s Tom Peterson (celebrating a new CD). No cover (priority seating for dinner guests). Dinner seating 5:30 p.m., music begins 7:30 p.m. 1302 S. First St. — P.B.

Wednesday: Help Clifford Help Kids with Los Lobos at ACL Live. Any visit from the East Los Angeles roots-rockers, who mix country, folk, Latin, jazz and more into their unique Americana sound, is welcome. This one’s special, though: It’s the annual fundraiser named for the late Clifford Antone, founder of Antone’s nightclub, and benefiting American YouthWorks. $29-$39. 9 p.m. 310 Wllie Nelson Blvd. — P.B.

Thursday: Ramblin’ Jack Elliott at Cactus Cafe. “They don’t call him Ramblin’ Jack because he travels a lot,” the late Guy Clark used to kid. And yet at 86, the loquacious Mr. Elliott is still out there touring, long after many of his peers have left this mortal coil. He’s a living link to the 20th-century heyday of Woody Guthrie, a troubadour whose American folk-music bona fides run as deep as anyone alive. Elliott hasn’t had a new album out for almost a decade, but his lifetime of songs and experiences make the live show still well worthwhile. $30-$35. 8 p.m. 2247 Guadalupe St. — P.B.

Bill Carter plays Sun Radio’s “Texas Radio Live” show at Guero’s on Wednesday, November 8. Jay Janner/American-Statesman 2013
