Lucinda Williams returns to the Austin Music Awards this year as a presenter and performer. JAY JANNER / AMERICAN-STATESMAN 2014

Joe Ely will receive the Townes Van Zandt Songwriting Award and Liz Lambert will be presented with the Margaret Moser Women in Music Award at this year’s Austin Music Awards, which for the first time since 1987 moves outside the window of South by Southwest with a February 28 date at ACL Live.

Songwriter and artist Terry Allen will present the Van Zandt Award to his fellow Lubbock native Ely. Grammy-winning songwriter Lucinda Williams will present the Moser Award to Lambert, the founder and creative director of Bunkhouse Hotels (which includes the South Congress hubs San Jose Motel and Jo’s Coffee).

Williams also will perform at the show, along with the Black Angels, David Ramirez, Adam Torres, and Third Root with guests Riders Against the Storm and Bavu Blakes. Guitarist Charlie Sexton will lead a house band featuring keyboardist Michael Ramos, bassist John Michael Schoepf and drummer Conrad Choucroun. Tickets, $35-$150, are on sale via the venue’s website; proceeds benefit the SIMS Foundation.

The Moser and Van Zandt honors are relatively new additions to the Awards Show program. Previous winners of the Moser Award, which began in 2016, were Susan Antone and Rose Reyes. Allen was the winner of the inaugural Van Zandt Award last year.
