Less than a year after Paul Simon was among the major guests at a massive Hurricane Harvey benefit concert at the Erwin Center, the folk-rock great will return to that venue this year for a full show of his own — and it might be the last chance for Austinites to see him. Simon is about to embark on “Homeward Bound: The Farewell Tour,” which will stop at the Erwin Center on June 4.

Ticket go on sale at 10 a.m.Friday, Feb. 9. Prices have not yet been announced; more details will be available soon via Simon’s website and the Erwin Center’s box office site. The June 4 show falls the day after George Strait, who retired from touring in 2014, makes a rare return to the stage to help the Erwin Center celebrate its 40th anniversary.

In a press release that accompanied the announcement, Simon said, “I’ve often wondered what it would feel like to reach the point where I’d consider bringing my performing career to a natural end. Now I know: It feels a little unsettling, a touch exhilarating and something of a relief.

“I love making music, my voice is still strong, and my band is a tight, extraordinary group of gifted musicians. I think about music constantly. I am very grateful for a fulfilling career and, of course, most of all to the audiences who heard something in my music that touched their hearts.”

Simon has been around Austin a fair bit in the last few years. In 2016, he taped an episode of “Austin City Limits” at ACL Live two days after a performance at Bass Concert Hall. He also turned up as a surprise guest with his wife Edie Brickell and comedian/bluegrass musician Steve Martin when they performed at the Long Center in 2014. And Dallas native Brickell has been in Austin a bit recently to work on an album with her longtime band New Bohemians at Arlyn Studios.

The tour begins May 16 in Vancouver, B.C., and includes 20 North American dates before heading overseas for a handful of dates in Europe culminating with a festival in London’s Hyde Park on July 15 with James Taylor and Bonnie Raitt. In addition to Austin, it includes two other Texas stops: June 1 in Dallas at American Airlines Arena and June 2 in Houston at the Toyota Center.
