Common will be in town for the South by Southwest Conference and Festival. The Chicago rapper/actor/activist/powerful and intelligent human being, will participate in a featured session on ‘The Chi,” the Showtime drama he created and executive produces.
The panel, scheduled for Monday, March 12, also features executive producer Lena Waithe and actors Jacob Latimore and Jason Mitchell. No word yet on whether Common will perform, but he would make a stellar headliner for the annual NPR music showcase if he felt like sticking around for a few days.
Showtime will also host the Showtime House at Clive Bar during the festival. Events include a Thursday showcase celebrating the show “SMILF” that features an all-female lineup with indie rock outfit Speedy Ortiz and rapper Princess Nokia as well as a Friday party featuring soul dynamo Lee Fields and the Expressions and rapper Darryl “DMC” McDaniels. Both of those official SXSW events still have headliner slot wide open.
