‘Ask me about the new Daniel Johnston record,’ the sign said. So we did.

A few days ago as South by Southwest was hitting its final stretch, we started seeing Facebook posts from Austin producer/musician Brian Beattie of him standing on South Congress holding up a sign that said, “Ask me about the new Daniel Johnston record.”

On Sunday afternoon, heading home from the SXSW softball game, we spotted Beattie and his sign, perched in front of James Talbot’s “Your Essential Magnificence” sculpture at South Congress and Live Oak streets. So we stopped, and asked. Here’s what he told us:
