Formed in 2011, native Austinite Ryan Harkrider’s big-band soul revue the Nightowls grew an audience locally for years. Playing residencies at the Highball, One-2-One Bar and Icenhauer’s, they eventually got slots at the Austin City Limits Music Festival and Blues on the Green.

“We Are the Nightowls,” the band’s new album, follows up a pair of historically-minded EPs that they recorded at legendary studios in Memphis and Muscle Shoals, Ala. “We spent over two years working on this one,” Harkrider says of the sessions at Studios at Fischer new New Braunfels with producer Chris Bell. “We worked our asses off making this record and for all the right reasons: love, happiness, peace, and fun.”

We’re streaming the album exclusively today on Austin360, two days before its release on Friday, April 27. After a handful of Texas and western U.S. dates over the next couple of weeks, the band will play a free in-store at Waterloo Records on May 15.
