Waterloo Music Festival, a new event centered around touring jam bands supplemented by local acts, will make its debut Sept. 7-9 at Carson Creek Ranch with top-drawing Colorado outfit String Cheese Incident as the headliner for all three nights.

Also on the bill are Joe Russo’s Almost Dead, a top-drawing Grateful Dead tribute band making its first Texas appearance; rootsy band Railroad Earth, a recent headliner at the Old Settler’s Music Festival near Lockhart; eclectic group the Motet, Denver-based veterans of Austin’s Euphoria Fest; Alabama Americana-electronica duo BoomBox; instro-fusion group Tauk; and songwriter/producer Marco Benevento. More names will be announced soon.

On-site camping will be part of the festival’s model, similar to the way Carson Creek has been used in recent years by festivals such as Levitation and Euphoria.

Tickets, $99 for a three-day pass or $199 for VIP, go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, May 11, via the festival’s website. Those prices will rise to $119 and $249 on an unspecified date. Camping packages start at $70, with an additional $49 for a camping-vehicle pass.

Heard Presents, Havin’ a Ball Productions and Unknown Entertainment are partnering to present the event. “We set out to honor and celebrate the heritage and spirit of Austin, with world-class music inspired by our roots and a weekend-long outdoor experience that would make our city proud,” co-founder Briggs Mitchell stated in the festival announcement.

Mitchell added that “to us, nothing brings together the creativity and soul of Austin more than three nights of The String Cheese Incident accompanied by an eclectic mix of artists across the jam music spectrum.”
