This week’s music picks: Celebrate freedom with Willie Nelson

Take in the fireworks with Willie, then cool out with the Boss Babes and Fantastic Negrito.

Willie Nelson. JAY JANNER / AMERICAN-STATESMAN 2o17

Wednesday: Willie Nelson’s Fourth of July Picnic at Circuit of the Americas. That’s now four years of the Fourth with Willie at the racetrack, with headliners in the Austin360 Amphitheater plus a bunch more acts in the venue’s grand plaza throughout the afternoon. Guests this year include Sturgill Simpson, Margo Price, the Head and the Heart, Ryan Bingham, Edie Brickell & New Bohemians, Jamestown Revival and longtime regulars such as Asleep at the Wheel, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Billy Joe Shaver. $42.50-$99.50. Noon. 9201 Circuit of the Americas Blvd. austin360amphitheater.com. — P.B.

Thursday: Fantastic Negrito at Antone’s. As a young man, Xavier Dphrepaulezz’s rock ’n’ roll dreams were waylaid by a shoddy record contract and a devastating car accident. He walked away from the music world completely. Then, in his 40s, he found a new voice as Fantastic Negrito and began blessing us with foot-stomping, gutbucket outcries, steeped in Delta blues tradition. His songs fiercely address inequality and injustice in modern America, and his electrifying live show ignites the urgency of the work. The Guestlist opens. $12-$15. 8 p.m. 305 E. Fifth St. antonesnightclub.com. — D.S.S

Thursday: DJ Ella Ella at Native Hostel. Boss Babes ATX presents the July installment of their monthly dance party. The event pairs female-identifying local DJs and artists. DJ Ella Ella draws on ‘90s influences to create a “future-forward” mix and artist Cindy Popp, who has a Babes-sponsored exhibition at the Elisabet Ney Museum in August, will show her work. Free. 9 p.m. 807 E Fourth St. RSVP at bossbabes.org. — D.S.S.
