Encore Records, a record and video store that’s been operating in Austin since the Clinton administration, will close up shop at the end of September.
“It is with a heavy heart that we regretfully inform you all that after 30 years of doing business here in Austin, we’ll finally be shutting down and ceasing operations at the end of September,” a post on the store’s official Facebook page reads.
The Austin Chronicle reports the store had struggled since moving to its downtown location from Anderson Lane in 2012.
According to the Chronicle, the store “faced a litany of challenges: being enveloped by construction, lack of available parking, a national reckoning of physical retail, and landlords priming the store’s property for redevelopment.”
As of August 25, the store’s entire inventory has been 20 percent off.
“We’ll be dropping prices even more next month,” the Facebook post says.
